Slipped Stitch Shawl (receipt)

I love wearing my alpaca shawl, it was one of my favourites this winter. After publishing pictures of my latest shawl I got lot of compliments and a commenter asked me if I was intend to share the pattern. Honestly I don't feel trained enough to write a colorwork pattern, so now I give just a receipt how to start the knitting, the basic steps and I share the chart of the work.

It is a slipped stitch shawl that means you use just one color at one row. When the second color is picked up, main color stitches are passed without being knitted in front of the work. This method is ideal for those who are new into working with more colors and don't feel enough comfortable with stranded colorwork.

Materials

I used up 1.5 skeins of Drops Baby Alpaca Silk in colorways Dark Blue and Hellgrau and almost 2 skeins of Drops Alpaca in Pistacio. The edging is a real yarn-eater detail of the shawl. I knitted on 3.00 mm needles.

Beginning

With main color cast on 2 stitches and knit 8 rows in stockinette. Now you got a rectangle. Without turning the work pick up 4 stitches on the long side of the rectangle and 2 stitches on the next shorter side. Now you have 8 stitches on your needles.

Increasing

Start increasing in next row.
With main color {K2, Yo, K1, Yo} K2 {Yo, K1, Yo, K2}. You increased 2 sts on both sides. The increasing instructions highlighted between braces {} will be repeated in every second rows.
Next row: K2, P to last 2 sts, K2

Start working with two colors

I explain the first few rows to be familiar with reading the chart.

Row 1 (C1): {K2, Yo, K1, Yo} K to last 3 sts {Yo, K1, Yo, K2}
Row 2 (C1): K2, P to last 2 sts, K2
Row 3 (C2): {K2, Yo, K1, Yo} K4, Sl 2 sts, K4, {Yo, K1, Yo, K2}
Row 4 (C2): K2, P7, Sl 2 sts, P7, K2
Row 5 (C1): and in ea 4th row repeat Row 1
Row 6 (C1): and in ea 4th row repeat Row 2
Row 7 (C2): {K2, Yo, K1, Yo} K2, Sl 2 sts, K4, Sl 4 sts, K4, Sl 2 sts, K2, {Yo, K1, Yo, K2}
Row 8 (C2): K2, P4, Sl 2 sts, P4, Sl 4 sts, P4, Sl 2 sts, P4, K2

Continue working the Chart.

Repeat Rows 19-50 one more time.

Edging

Keeping the increasing stitches on the sides knit a 12 more rows in garter stitch alternating the colors ending with WS row. Do not cast off. Total number of your stitches: 196.

With the 3rd color cast on 20 sts.
Row 1&3&5: Slip as if to purl, knit until last st, knit the next st together with the following body stitch
Row 2&4: Slip as if to purl, knit all sts.
Row 6: Slip as if to purl, purl all sts.

Repeat Rows 1-6 to the last 4 rows. Knit Rows 1-4 and cast off.

Abbreviations

K - knit, P - purl, Sl - slip stitch in front of the work, Yo - yarn over, st(s) - stitches, C1 - work with main color, C2 - work with second color
