Penguin cozies

I can't tell how happy I am now, when I am sharing this new crochet pattern with you. From the buttom of my heart thank you for all your support through the year! I am wishing you a merry Christmas!


Skill level: advanced beginner 

Materials and notions:
  • mercerized cotton yarn: I used Schachenmayr SMC Catania in white, black, yellow, grey, red, green and fuchsia.
  • crochet hook E/3.5 mm
  • for the eyes: bead sor safety eyes
  • buttons (for cozy #2 and #3)
  • sewing threads in matching colors
  • tapestry needle
  • stitch markers (optional)
  • polyfil (optional)

The Penguin Applique


R1-4 and R9-10 Worked in continous rounds, place your marker at the first stitch. Check the number of your stitches at the end of each rows. 

1. The belly:
Start with white yarn.
R1 Make a magic ring. Ch1 and sc 6 in the ring {6 st}
R2 2sc in ea st around {12 st}
R3 *2sc, 1 sc in next st* {18 st}
R4 *2sc, 1 sc in next 2 sts* {24 st}

2. Shape the head:
Switch to black yarn. 
R5 2 sc, 1 sc in next 4 st, sl st to the next. {7 sts}
R6 Ch1 and turn.  Sc in next 4 sts, sl st to the last st {6 sts}
R7 Ch1 and turn. Sc in next 3 sts, sl st to the last st {5 sts}
R8 Ch1 and turn. Sc in next 2 sts, sl st to the last st {4 sts}

3. Finish the body:
R9 Ch1 and turn. Sc in the same st, sc in next 2 sts. 
Continue on the sides. 2 sc in sl st of the prev row, sc in next 3 places.  2sc in next st, 1 sc in next 2 sts. *2sc in next st, 1 sc in next 3 sts* Repeat this 3 times. 2 sc, 1 sc in next 2 sts, 2sc. 
Sc in last 3 places. {36}  
R10 2sc, sc in next 3 sts, 2sc, sc in next 4 sts, 2sc, sc  in next 3 sts, *2sc, sc in next 4 sts* Repeat this 3 times. 2sc, sc in next 3 sts, 2sc, sc  in next 4 st. Sl st to the beg. {44}

Feet [Yellow]: Pull out the yarn next to the middle st of the bottom row, Slip stitch 4 in the right.  Pull out the yarn through the left side of the same st, sl st 5 in the left.

Mouth [Yellow]: Work with sl st. Pull out the yarn next to the 2nd st of the 3rd row from the top.  Sl st 3, turn and sl st 2 in the prev row, join to the beg.

Sew on the eyes.

Finishing: sl st around your penguin. Fasten off. Sew the ends.

Measurements: with: 10.5" / 23 cm width, 3.5" / 8 cm height

R1  Ch 42. Sc in ea chain. {42}
R2-18 Ch1 and turn. Sc  in  the same st, sc in ea st {42}
R19 Ch1 and turn. 2 sc in the same st, sc in ea st until the last st. Make 3sc in the last st. {45}
Follow on the side: sc in ea sp {18}. 3sc in the corner st, sc in ea st in the row until the last st, 3sc in the last st {46}. Sc in first 9 sts, ch 15 (if your button is bigger, than chain more), sc in the last 9 st. Join with a sl st to the beg.


Cozy #2

Your cup may differ, than measure it and start on more or less stitches if it is neccessary. 
Worked in continous rounds, place your marker at the first stitch. Check the number of your stitches at the end of each rows. 


R1 Ch 32 and turn. Ch1, sc in the prev ch. Sc in next 30 sts. 3sc in the last st of the round. Keep on working on the other side, sc 1 in ea st until the last st. 2sc in the last st. {66} 

R2 2sc in first st, sc in next 30 sts, 2sc in next, sc , 2sc in next, sc in next 30 sts, 2sc, sc {70} 
R3 sc, 2sc, sc in next 31, 2sc, sc in next 2, 2sc, sc in next 31, 2sc, sc {74} 
R4 sc in first 2 sts, 2sc, sc in next 32, 2sc, sc in next 3, 2sc, sc in next 32, 2sc, sc {78} 
R5 sc in first 3 sts, 2sc, sc in next 33, 2sc, sc in next 4, 2sc, sc in next 33, 2sc, sc {82} 
R6 sc in first 4 sts, 2sc, sc in next 34, 2sc, sc in next 5, 2sc, sc in next 34, 2sc, sc {86} 
R7 sc in first 5 sts, 2sc, sc in next 35, 2sc, sc in next 6, 2sc, sc in next 35, 2sc, sc {90} 
R8 sc in first 6 sts, 2sc, sc in next 36, 2sc, sc in next 7, 2sc, sc in next 36, 2sc, sc {94} 
R9 sc in first 7 sts, 2sc, sc in next 37, 2sc, sc in next 8, 2sc, sc in next 37, 2sc, sc {98} 
R10 sc in first 8 sts, 2sc, sc in next 38, 2sc, sc in next 9, 2sc, sc in next 38, 2sc, sc {102} 
Sew on the buttons. Fasten with elastic loop.  


Cozy #3

Measure your cup. 
Chain a long tail (approx. 2" smaller than your cup). 
R1-2 working continously dc1 in ea st around
R3-5 ch3 and turn. Dc1 in ea st around.
R6 finish your work with a continous dc round.
Fasten off, weave the ends.

The knitted bow 

Step #1
Make a magic ring and ch4.
Step #2
Make 3 tr to the ring.

Step #3
Ch4 and join it to the beg.

Step #4
Make 3 tr to the ring. Ch4.

Step #5
Make 3 tr to the ring.
Step #6
Ch4 and join to the beg.
Step #7
Fasten off.
Leave a long tail and wrap it around the bow.
